Brain health shouldn't be something you first start thinking about in middle- or old-age. Just as you need to exercise your body throughout life to keep it healthy so too does your brain require a daily workout to keep it vital and alert. It is common for people to experience a gradual decline in their mental abilities as they age. We are told that this is normal and is the result of age-related structural changes in the brain - and that such changes are inevitable. But you know what... there's a lot of evidence coming from the latest research into brain health that brain aging is only 'normal and inevitable' if you do nothing to prevent it. This means that it doesn't have to happen to you - that you can keep your brain healthy and in 'tip-top' shape, enjoy being creative and improve your memory with just a little bit of effort... whatever your age. The question is how...? Research findings point to three main ways to support your brain: healthy diet, mental activity and getting physical with the brain. The first two have been promoted for many years. However, the third - getting physical with the brain - is not widely known yet may well prove to be the most powerful factor in maintaining brain health. What does 'getting physical' with your brain mean? To make the explanation simple I'll define getting physical as anything that is clearly not diet related nor a mental activity such as puzzles, number sequence exercises, memory games, practicing musical instruments and so on. So what can you do to get physical with your brain? Plenty! In fact, as you'll discover shortly, there are many powerful 'hands-on' ways of using physical activity to boost your brain-power and keep you as sharp as a tack regardless of your age. And, because they are based solely on natural health principles, they help your brain to help itself without having to resort to popping pills, taking supplements, mood enhancers or anything like that. What's more, you're likely to find getting physical with your brain so easy and enjoyable that you can readily picture yourself doing it for life. Here are some of the factors you should consider when developing a strategy to keep your brain healthy, alert and vital: Physical exercise: Reduce stress levels: Encourage the flow of oxygenated blood to the brain: Sexual Energy: Control the breathing rate: Challenge the brain: Stimulate the senses: In conclusion it is fair to say that all the above elements can have a marked positive influence on brain health in their own right. However, it is the synergistic impact of using them in combination that is likely to provide the most powerful benefits. One such revolutionary program that provides such a combination is called "How To Rewire Your Brain" which you can get for FREE! FREE. Mind Power - Three Mind Power Secrets
There are hundreds of ways to improve your mind power. Some have to do with the mind-body connection, some with what you eat, and some with how you train yourself to think. Here is an example of each. Posture And Mind Power Your posture affects your thinking process. You can easily prove this to yourself with a simple experiment. Start by sitting in any chair. Then slouch, letting your head hang down and looking at the floor. Now let your mouth hang open. Now, try doing math in your head. Add large numbers or multiply two-digit numbers - just do whatever math you can normally do with some difficulty in your mind. Now for part two. Sit up straight, keep your mouth closed and look forward or slightly upwards. Try that mental math again. You'll notice that it's easier to think with this better posture. Keep this in mind. Whenever you feel that brain fog coming, just sit up straight and close your mouth. Watch That Glycemic Index Diabetics know about the "glycemic index," which rates foods according to how slowly the carbohydrates are released into the system. Slower is better, both for diabetics and for those who want to avoid "brain fog" and think more clearly. Foods that slowly release sugars into your system (and have a low index rating) include beans, whole grains, apples, and salads. There are other factors involved in how some of these foods affect your brain in the short-term. Beans cause drowsiness in some people for example. However, in general, any foods that are rated high on the glycemic index are likely to cause "brain fog." If you really want to test this, eat a large piece of sugary pie on an empty stomach, and see how your mind feels fifteen minutes later. Train Your Brain To develop greater mind power long-term, train yourself to think in certain useful ways. For example, for more insightful analysis, you can train yourself to challenge assumptions. This is one of the most powerful problem-solving techniques. Suppose you want ways to get customers into your store? Ask, "Do I really need more customers?" An assumption-challenging question like this suggests other creative solutions, like finding ways to make more money off existing customers, or ways to cut expenses. Maybe these will lead to more profitable ideas. Challenging assumptions increases the creativity of your solutions. Do this with a given technique for several weeks. Carry a card that reminds you to think a certain way or use a certain technique. Three weeks seems to be the amount of time it takes to make something into a well-established habit, and habitually thinking in better ways is the most effective ways to exercise greater mind power. Mind Power - The Mystic Path to Cosmic Power: A Book Review
Vernon Howard was one of the top authors on mind power and spiritual self-help of the mid to late 20th century. He is gone now but his copious writings live on, kept in print now by his devoted followers, especially those associated with the Arizona-based New Life Foundation. I first discovered Howard through a short booklet that fell into my hands many years ago, titled Your Power to Say No. The style of writing, as well as the message, immediately grabbed me. It was clear, to-the-point and mercifully free of the esoteric (read "airy fairy") language that clutters so much of the writing in the spiritual self-help field. Howard was a guru without guru pretensions. Since that first little booklet, I have avidly sought ought his book-length writings. Each one is different; while Howard's core message about mental self-reliance and spiritual self-empowerment remained the same, the way he presented it changed with each new book. My favorite of his - and I'm guessing it's his all-time best seller - is The Mystic Path to Cosmic Power. The only thing I dislike about Mystic Path is the title itself, which perhaps was forced on Howard by a publisher. It's a little too cheesy for my taste, and, worse, it does not reflect Howard's own style of writing. Nevertheless, that's a minor quibble. The book itself offers a wealth of practical suggestions for waking up (spiritually speaking), feeling great every minute of one's life, curing fear and tension, becoming an entirely new person, smashing barriers and speeding ahead toward achieving one's true goals. Howard is a master of the illustrative anecdote and the perfect metaphor, and he uses them liberally to drive home his advice. The Mystic Path to Cosmic Power was first published in 1967. Still in print, it is as fresh and as powerful today as it was then. If you decide to seek out and read only one of Vernon Howard's books, make it this one. The Mystic Path to Cosmic Power is published by New Life Foundation of Pine, Arizona; ISBN # 0-901203-93-1. H. Mind Power - Mind Power Over Involuntary Body Functions
Much has been written about the mind-body connection. Studies have shown that people can learn to control involuntary body functions consciously, using the power of their minds. But so much of the research has been challenged on the one side, and exaggerated on the other, that many of us are justifiably skeptical of claims for this kind of "mind power." Just how much can we control our bodies using the power of our minds? Let's find out. There are simple and safe ways to experiment in this area. Mind Power Over Autonomic Body Functions When I was a child, my mother was studying yoga, and she taught me and my brothers how to relax and enter a meditative state. While in this state, we also found that we could "order" the blood to flow to one arm or the other, causing a noticeable increase in the warmth of that arm. These little experiments were the first time that I realized how much control our minds really can have. We normally assume that things like where our blood flows and how our hearts beat are outside of our conscious control. This is certainly true, in part. A person can't necessarily choose right now to change their heart rate or blood flow, or brain wave frequency. However, with the right techniques and some practice, all of these involuntary body functions can be consciously controlled. For example, your pupils get bigger automatically when it is dark. Interestingly, they also get larger when you see something you like, or just vividly imagine something you like. Once you understand this, you can quickly learn to control your pupil size with just your mind. Go watch your eyes in a mirror right now, and see what happens when you imagine someone you like, a favorite food, or anything you would like to see. If the desire is strong and the imagined scene vivid, your pupils quickly grow in size. Try different scenes to see which work best. After an hour of practice, you should be able to consciously change your pupil size at will. Larger pupils, by the way, are a sign of receptivity that is picked up unconsciously by the person in front of you. The sense that you like that person will often make him or her feel similarly towards you. There are other uses for this trick that are beyond the scope of this article. Using Feedback To Develop Control Biofeedback machines, which monitor perspiration, heart rate, and breathing, can be used to learn how to control many normally involuntary body functions. Without one of these expensive machines, we have to find other ways to get feedback. Notice that in the pupil experiment above you have instant feedback by way of the mirror. To measure heart rate, you can simply take your pulse, or have someone else do it. To speed up imagine stepping on a nail that goes through your foot. The more you develop your ability to imagine things vividly, the better this will work. Take your pulse immediately before and then during this exercise in imagination. Some use this trick to beat polygraph machines (lie detector tests), by consciously increasing both heart rate and perspiration during the "control" questions. Meditators can eventually learn how to slow their heart and relax at will. Practice is needed, the feedback you get is what keeps you on the right path. You may not know exactly what you are doing to slow down your heart or relax your muscles, or increase your body temperature. That's okay. It is like learning to ride a bicycle. You learn how by trying and practicing, but in the end you're still not able to explain to someone how you use your muscles to balance. In a similar way you can learn to control many body functions it if you have proper feedback. Need physical energy? You could use caffeine or other drugs, but this is area is also susceptible to mind power. Ever notice how talking about something you are passionate about "wakes" you up? There are real chemical changes that happen. With a vivid enough imagination, you can get some of the same effect by imagining such a conversation. In a more extreme example, you can create a flow of adrenaline - normally an involuntary body function - by imagining a fight with a bear, or whatever gets you going. Clearly there are many ways to control the autonomic nervous system, or "involuntary body functions" using mind power. Copyright Steve Gillman. Mind Power - How to Improve Memory: 5 Memorable Tips
Do you frequently walk into a room and forget why you were going there? Some of us have problems with remembering names and faces. The ability to do well on tests or promotional exams often hinges on the ability to retain and then recall information. Despite its importance, how to improve memory is a topic that is often overlooked in our education. Memory can be broken down into three basic components: imprint, retention and recall. Imprint is when we encounter a new piece of information that we would like to store in the memory banks. Retention is the degree to which this information creates a memorable and lasting impression or not. Finally, recall is the ability to retrieve the retained information at will. Any of these three phases can be the culprit in a memory lapse. Here are some tips that can help you improve memory. Pay Attention- Sometimes people blame their recall abilities when a given fact escapes them when really the error occurred during the imprint phase. If you are not paying attention, chances are you will not remember. Part of the problem is the we are continually bombarded by trivial messages courtesy of the mass media. Attention follows interest, if something is important to remember, remind yourself of that at that time. Make Associations. Neurologists tell us that the individual brain cells actually make physical connections with other brain cells in response to new associations. The more associations you make with a piece of information, the more likely it will be retained. Just met someone named Richard and you want to be sure you remember his name? It would be pretty hard to forget if you created a mental image of Richard Nixon putting his arm around this new acquaintance while he said, "I am not a crook, and my friend Richard here isn't here either!" The more colorful and comical an association is, the more easily it will be retained. Get Enough Rest. Sleep deprivation and fatigue are proven to dampen all phases of memory. Elite military units intentionally create conditions of mental and physical exhaustion during the training and selection of new recruits to see if they can function properly under those circumstances, many cannot and are dropped from the program. Memory problems are one of the early warning signs that stress has gotten out of hand. Make sure you are getting plenty of sleep, rest and recreation. Stay Hydrated and Oxygenated. All of the organs of the body require copious amounts of water and oxygen to function at their best, especially the brain. Many of the health problems encountered the elderly are due to dehydration, including memory lapse. The brain uses a lion's share of the oxygen brought into the body. Make sure your living and work spaces are well-ventilated. Deep breathing exercises as taught in yoga can also improve memory and mind power. Watch Out for Negative Beliefs. A person gets to a certain age and it is almost inevitable he will begin to complain about the memory starting to get foggy. This is not to say that dementia and Alzheimer's disease are not real maladies. However, the power of self-suggestion can impair memory in an otherwise healthy person. A popular routine amongst stage hypnotists is to suggest to a receptive volunteer, "in a moment the number between 6 and 8 will disappear, you will try very hard to remember it, but it will remain a blank until I snap my fingers." Lo and behold the number does seem disappear for awhile, where the otherwise intelligent person cannot answer "what is four plus three?" The volunteer still has a perfectly fine brain, the power of belief just created a temporary and amusing memory lapse. Use positive affirmations like "my memory and mind-power grow stronger each and every day" to combat negative thoughts and beliefs. Mind Power - Quantum Mind Power Recordings - The Quantum Mind Power System is Nothing but Noise!
"The Quantum Mind Power recording is nothing BUT noise!". That was the first thing my fianc'e told me when I let her listen to the 'The Morry Method Brainwave Entrainment System' for the first time. It was challenging to convince anyone that the Quantum Mind Power recordings are able to create a profound effect on your life. Well at least, it was especially difficult for me to persuade my fianc'e to give this program a fair try. More so when she gave me that puzzled look when I told her that the Quantum Mind Power system was developed by a certified brainwave entrainment specialist. I can understand that look perfectly as I was in the same position myself when I first heard about the amazing technology of the Quantum Mind Power system. And I am pretty sure even if you have heard of the brainwaves entrainment program remotely before, you would be wondering the same thing too. Alright, let us break it down to simpler words, shall we? What exactly is the Quantum Mind Power system? The Quantum Mind Power system is a series of MP3 recordings that are supposed to train your brainwaves to attain a meditative state of mind also known as the Alpha stage. It is made up of pulsing sounds and 'noise' if you would like to call it, and is responsible for tuning your brainwaves into the right frequency for your Alpha state. So, what is the Alpha state? The Alpha state of mind is when you drop a level down from your active consciousness level, which is Beta by the way, and starts to drift off in your thoughts. Examples of Alpha states are when you are driving, taking a shower, reading a book before going to bed, praying and so on. When you are in Alpha mode, you maintain consciousness level but you are very aware of your surroundings. This is the state where you 'communicate' with your subconscious mind with thoughts and affirmative ideas. The Quantum Mind Power system is designed to help tune your brainwaves pattern to reach Alpha mode at will. The creators of this program believe that the 'noise' generated can help to enhance your mental prowess. It can help you to learn at a faster speed, be more creative, solve problems better, be more focused and improve your intuitive abilities. Would you like to learn powerful mind control techniques that can help you to attain your deepest desires, achieve a euphoric state of being, attract abundant wealth and empower your lives forever? Mind Power - Use Mind Power - Find the Key to Your Roadblocks to Success
Success is hard - or so we like to believe. Yet some people seem to succeed easily, effortlessly where you've been struggling to even get going! Then they go on to bigger and better things. Why are you struggling while other people are being successful? Here are some ideas to help you find the blockage... You may be blaming external circumstances for your challenges - no money, no connections with the right people, not enough time... But if you look around you you'll always find someone who's started from a worse place than you and been more successful. The answer is simple - start taking ownership, accountability and responsibility for your own success in life. You may have a negative mental attitude. A negative attitude will make it hard for you to remain motivated and positive and the daily effort of working your plan will be much harder. You will find it harder to spot the opportunities that will help you on your way. Developing and maintaining a positive mental attitude will make it easier for you to succeed. You may not have decided to be successful. This sounds crazy - aren't your struggles evidence enough that you want success. But is this a want or have you really decided with your whole mind, body and spirit that you will do absolutely whatever it will takes to be successful. You may not be asking for help. Asking for help means overcoming the fear of rejection, admitting weakness and other terrible things. However you can end up wasting days, weeks, years doing something that you could learn in seconds if you just asked... Look at where you're stuck and ask yourself "How can I get help?" You might be enjoying the struggle. Another mad idea! But maybe there's some truth in this idea. Your ego may be measuring itself in terms of the difficulties that you've overcome. We've been bought up to believe that anything worthwhile is worth fighting for. The harder you're working, the more you're accomplishing. You need to ask yourself how someone like Bill Gates has built a multi-billion dollar empire if just making a few dollars is so hard! You might not be thinking big enough. If you believe that what you are trying to achieve is a major achievement, well then it is - for you that is! You can bet your bottom dollar that someone else has seen it as a 'no-brainer' and achieved it effortlessly. One antidote to this condition is to think bigger - when you commit yourself to bigger thinking, your smaller problems will shrink in comparison. You've heard received wisdom like "Success is hard", "you can't always get what you want" and all the other things that reinforce the belief that you will have to struggle to be successful. This belief will keep you locked in struggle until you start to believe differently. You've seen that the belief that success is hard is often sustained in your mind by your ego, by your mental attitude, by a simple decision... Your route to success is rarely due to external circumstances. USe your mind power, examine your motives and your actions to find out where you are blocking yourself on your path to success. Mind Power - Anxiety Panic Attacks
You often hear the phrases - anxiety attack and panic attack - used interchangeably. Which would be okay, if the goal is to NOT understand anxiety and panic. Just bundle them up together. Keep them a mystery. Keep them 'out there' somewhere. Nebulous and undefined. In other words, if you're seeking to give your power away to anxiety and panic, then don't look at the difference between them. Pretend they're two words for the same situation. OR.... you could learn about the differences, and realize - I can actually DO something about this! Anxiety doesn't 'attack' you. It's more like a suffocating fog - a suffocating web - that you create by very precise actions, habits, and patterns. Anxiety is not REALLY an invisible invading army... like endless columns of marching ants, with their little walkie-talkies, and their cannons and their infantrymen. Marching in their little helmets. When you think about it, even panic doesn't really attack. Although the term does more aptly apply to panic than to anxiety. Panic is more like a landmine that you've placed in the path ahead of you. You throw it out ahead of you, again by engaging in very precise actions, habits and patterns. And then you walk along and step in it - and panic explodes in your face. Or rather, in your body. Which seems like an attack. The problems with viewing either anxiety or panic as 'attacking' you: 1. It keeps them mysterious and unknown 2. It makes them the enemy 3. It creates separation 4. It fosters irresponsibility 5. It creates self-condemnation 6. It makes it harder to DO something about it 7. It keeps you in a state of impotence In other words, it locks the problem in place, and keeps you helpless... powerless... to actually do something to end it. Sadly, ironically, anxiety and panic 'attacks' are not that difficult to end. If you believe that, you can create them ending with relative ease. On the other hand, if you hold tightly to the belief that you ARE helplessly under attack, then you most likely WON'T be ending them anytime soon. Basically, it comes down to OWNERSHIP. Am I willing to OWN these so-called attacks? Or is some 'outside force' responsible? Am I willing to even look at these questions? Am I willing to explore the issue? Or am I only willing to avoid thinking and feeling about it as much as possible? The closer I'm willing to get - the easier it will be to see them as they really are. The more I run away, the more they'll chase me. Right now, at this point, maybe I can't stop the attacks. Maybe I still feel helpless. But I can choose which direction to face. 1. Move closer to the problem; seeking to understand; seeking to engage; seeking greater responsibility. 2. Or, run away. Let them dictate the terms of your relationship. I'd suggest you seek them out. Study their movements. Track them down. Find their lair. Face them head-on. Embrace them. Own them. Your anxiety and your panic are a part of you. You always have the power to choose which direction to face. By seeking out your anxiety and your panic, you are taking your power back from them and making it harder for them to attack you. Anxiety and panic, while being quite different from one another, do share certain traits. Mind Power - Mental Self Help - How You Can Learn a Lesson From Fear
Fear is a powerful, primeval emotion that drives so many of your decisions. Fear is a mechanism for the ego to protect itself from change. Fear can keep you locked in a zone that is not of your choosing. Using a simple technique, you can face your fears and learn how to free yourself to make the changes you want in your life. Fear has performed a vital function for human beings and even higher animals - the function of self preservation. It is a tremendous source of emotional energy that provides us with the power to avoid danger of physical harm. We have become extremely sophisticated psychological beings over the millennia but we still retain the fear mechanism as one of our fundamental motivators. We now fear not only physical danger but also psychological dangers. You now experience fear of many things: failure, rejection, being inconvenienced by something, loosing some part of your life you have become accustomed to. You also experience fear of being discovered to be inadequate at something, or loosing the rationale behind some part of your life. Many of these fears are not real, they are purely based on your perception of what is real. Yet these fears can trap you. Fear is one of the most powerful motivators in your emotional vocabulary and it can overrule almost every other desire. What can we learn from fear? Many of your fears are not real, they are not going to cause you any harm, yet the mind power generated by fear makes them seem very real - sometimes even more real than the physical evidence in front of your eyes! As you examine these fears more closely, you will see that this fear is really a fear of having to make changes to aspects of yourself. These fears are doing for your ego what the fear of physical harm is doing for you body. Your fears are borne out of past conditioning and they are fuelled by memories of past events. Often it is the subconscious mind that is generating the fear response and you are not aware that it is happening. The first you consciously know about it is when you suddenly feel overwhelmed by fear. By examining your fears, rather than just letting them automatically drive your responses you can understand what change it is you are resisting and get some insight into why you are resisting it. Change is an essential part of your future growth and development, and by understanding your fears you use mind power to free yourself for personal growth and success. How can I learn from my fears? Fear leads to a number of different response mechanisms that can be summed up as either fight or flight. You might lash out at someone or something either verbally or sometimes physically when you experience fear. Or you might try to avoid the stimulus by withdrawing, becoming depressed, ignoring what's going on. A third mechanism is to distract yourself - watch excessive TV, substance abuse... The first step in learning from fear is to be aware when you are feeling fear by looking for responses that could be caused by fear. The next time you feel you are about take some reflexive action that is motivated by fear, instead of just letting it happen, pause and ask yourself "What am I afraid of here?" This won't be easy at first, but if you persist you will be able to identify the source of your fear and learn from it. Fear is a powerful emotion that drives you to do many things that you don't want to. Often it is a way for the subconscious mind to protect your ego from change. This can prevent you making the changes you want in your life. You can use mind power to learn to recognise your fears and find out what is causing them. This is an important step in making it easier for you to achieve the life you want. Find out more about Mental self help. Download my latest e-book here Principles of Success. Mind Power - Improve Your Life Using Subliminal Mind Programming
Subliminal mind programming is an interesting thing because it allows you to bypass your conscious mind and deliver any sort of message directly to your subconscious or unconscious mind. Since around the 1970's, the effectiveness of that subliminal messaging can have on a person's thoughts and behaviors has been well documented, and the most interesting thing is that the person in question will not e aware that they are being influenced! Some people hear the terms 'subliminal messaging' or 'subliminal programming' and they picture evil scientists with malevolent intentions trying to brainwash the world or something. This could not be further from the truth. If you have just a computer, there now exist tools that any person can install that flash discreet subliminal messages on their workspace, and these messages appear too rapidly to be perceived by the conscious mind. This sort of subconscious message delivery system can create absolutely phenomenal changes in a person's life in only a few weeks, because the content of the messages serves to inspire, motivate and energize people. These inspiring messages or affirmations can reprogram a person's belief system without their conscious awareness, and as such these new beliefs will shine through in all their thoughts and actions. The potential of this technology to change your life is really quite astounding, and best of all it requires no conscious effort on your part aside from simply installing the software! When you use positive subliminal mind programming software, there is a whole range of different programs you can choose if you want to achieve different things in your life. There are programs to enhance your creativity, help you break an addiction, help you lose weight, make you more confident, and even help you to get clear skin! You may have heard about different types of subliminal messaging using music or audio, but visual subliminal stimulation (the kind we are talking about here) is much more effective and produces much more dramatic results. However, audio subliminals have their place too, and should not be overlooked if you are searching for a way to improve your life. Subliminal affirmation CD's are widely available, but if you want the best results then you should use specialized software that allows you to create your own subliminal audios with the messages of your choosing. After using these revolutionary subliminal mind products in your life, after a few weeks you may very likely begin to experience some new things such as you will have an expanded vocabulary, and you will feel more confident and energized. You may not realize at first where these new feelings and sensations come from, but eventually you will realize that it is all due to the new, more positive belief system that you have programmed your mind with. This is the easiest method of self-development I have ever discovered, and it truly is the lazy person's road to success. Tools like the ones mentioned above can all be found on my site, HumanMindPower.com Subliminal Mind Programming tools can have a direct influence on the degree of success you experience in your life.
